MKM’s involvement in this
study was data collection team training, data collection, transcribing field
notes, translation of transcripts written in Burmese into English and
organizing validation workshop. During the data collection, MKM’s qualitative
data collection team visited to 4 townships: Hlaing Thar Yar and Dala in Yangon,
Mawlamyine in Mon and Pa Thein Gyi in Manadalay. A total of 31 FGDs was held
with child victims, child offenders, children who did not involve disputes, and
community leaders while 34 IDIs were conducted with witness, family members of
witness, family members of child victims and offenders by gender and 31 KIIs
with community leaders, village authorities, religious leaders, social workers
from Department of Social Welfare, lawyers, township level police, Head from
Child Protection Task Force and judge from juvenile court. Communication with
township level local authorities which is the most important part of data
collection was mostly undertaken by MKM.
